Years ago, while delivering results from a standard anonymous online 360° assessment project, I made a disheartening discovery. During a debrief, one of the participants mentioned he had scored everyone “4” and higher (on a 7 point scale), never scoring anyone below a 4. Later in the afternoon, I debriefed with another participant, who received a few “1” and “2” scores. He dismissed the results, saying those scores were given by the participant who never scored anyone below a 4!
Wow! Obviously, I knew this wasn’t the case but couldn’t disclose the truth. What a shame that he would not benefit from this important feedback. In that moment I made a decision. In an effort to give leaders the best opportunity to hear and use direct feedback, I created the Open 360° Feedback Process™.
